Weekly Top Pics

Adley Haywood

Congratulations to our Top Pic of the Week, Adley Haywood! Using a Nikon D700 and D750 accompanied with Nikon 50mm 1.8 G and Nikon 85mm 1.8 G lenses, he captured Control, Tranquility and Liberated.  A great light setup is also key to a successful portrait session. Adley set up a Yungnuo 560 III in a PhotoSEL 28-inch beauty dish to create the setting. Read more below on how he produced these stunning images.

Control-Monochrome Project

I have been a photographer for 3 short years. My journey began “on accident” when I bought my first DSLR for my eBay business. I was selling used men’s clothing on eBay and did everything from my iPad mini from listing the items, answering questions and taking photos. It was time to take my business to the next level, so I bought a mannequin to showcase my items and a Nikon D5100 with the kit lens. At first, I was discouraged because the image quality was just about the same as the iPad, so I took a break from eBay to learn how to use my camera properly. I practiced taking photos every day by bringing it everywhere with me. Taking photos of my son, friends and family became my new obsession. It wasn’t until I joined Instagram and people started reaching out to me to take their photos, I knew this was my calling.

Tranquility – Monochrome Project

I had each model select a few songs to get them in a mood to vibe to the lyrics of the song so I could capture what happened organically. As each model would give me different looks, I would have them pause for a few seconds so I could either get a different angle or direct them to get a slightly better pose. What is the location? My apartment studio in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Liberated – Monochrome Project

I would suggest learning about Frequency Separation for skin retouching. I believe it’s the most effective way to remove blemishes and even out the skin tones in your photos.
