Congrats to Eugene M. Chism! His captures are our Top Pics of the Week. We love featuring a variety of shots every week and these are definitely a treat!
I’ve been shooting for about 5 years. I started out taking photos with just a basic cell phone camera and started posting them online. After a few months, I bought a inexpensive point-and-shoot and started attending car shows and events. Needless to say, my need to want to improve lead me to wanting to upgrade fast.
My cousin, Jake Nixon, told me about this site he uses call keh.com that sells gear and their prices are great. so I checked it out. My 1st purchase and 1st DSLR was a Canon 30D and from there, 5 years later, I still purchase from keh.com; now mostly lenses and accessories. i love shooting with manual lenses and KEH is always my 1st stop! About 2 month ago, I bought a Nikon D2H from KEH Camera. I love using older model cameras and keeping one or two around as a back-up.
Eugene captured this shot of his friend, Sam Erskine’s, bike and helmet in front of his home. With the matching color scheme of the helmet and bike, his goal was to show the bright, custom detailed helmet. Using only natural light and a circular polarized filter, he grabbed his Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC Art lens.
Exposure: f/4 – shutter 1/200 – iso 100 – at 92mm
I always start my photos off in Lightroom for the basic editing then finish them in Photoshop. I use Photoshop to enhance and modify the colors and use the spot removals tool to fix those little imperfections and clean up the photo.
I love shooting cars! Every car has its own personality. People put time and money into their cars and I enjoy their hard work by taking beautiful photos!
Chism captured this shot in Huntsville, AL using his Canon EOS 5DMII accompanied with this Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM. Again, using all natural light with a circular polarized filter.
Exposure: f/5.6 – 1/125 – iso 400
I love shooting during the “golden hour” time of day. The light is perfect and produces beautiful colors, which means less editing at the end of the day.
Using his Canon 5D and Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens purchased from KEH Camera, this shot was taken at a car show in Huntsville, Alabama.
Exposure? f/2.8 – 1/320 – iso 100 – 50mm
In this particular shot, the car was in the perfect spot with a beautiful sunset in the background.
I find that using a circular polarizer helps cut down editing time. One of my favorite filters, because I shoot a lot of large shinny metal cars that LOVE to reflect light.
I love shooting. It’s a great hobby to past time. I enjoy creating memories for people as well as for myself.
