Top Pic of the Week: Evoke Images

Congratulations to our Top Pic of the Week, Candace and Jason of Evoke Images.  Read on to learn more about the production of these photos!

How long have you been a photographers & how did you begin your journey?

We’ve been shooting 13 yrs approximately; really we started by shooting pictures of family and friends.

How would you describe your photographic style?

We have transitioned into lifestyle photography and try to focus on a photo journalistic approach as of recently.

You all shoot a variety of photos from family life, weddings, and portraits. What tips do you have for shooting some of your favorite genres?

Babies and little kids are my absolute favorite.  Babies can be a challenge if you’re not prepared.  Bring a heater and lots of patience, because the baby can feel your stress, and mom and dads for that matter.

What is the story behind Evoke Images? How did you all begin?

We started about 2005-ish and went under a different name. About 2 years ago we refocused and re-branded our style and shooting into what it currently is.  Short version is Candace did EVERYTHING! Jason carried the bags and she had a wedding, but had to have a surgery, and wasn’t able to shoot the wedding, so Jason had to!!! Needless to say everything worked out and we’re still going 🙂

What advice or tips would you give to other photographers regarding finding their style?

Just try everything and when you find something you love, it’ll just click (no pun), I never thought my favorite subject would be newborns and kids until we did it and rocked it!  Keep an open mind,  and have fun, don’t take yourself to serious and above all be yourself.  People are buying you as much, if not more, than your photos.  We seem to forget the actual human person on the other end of that text or email.  I love this job 🙂
