Even you fur dads out there, you know the best angles for your fur kids and you can even get Fido to crack a smile for the camera. Not only are you a loving, nurturing parent, you are responsible for capturing some of the best moments in your children’s lives. We put together some fun categories for all you photographer dads out there. No matter what category of photographer you fall into, KEH Camera has the perfect gear for you!

Soccer Dad

You capture it all! You’re the photojournalist of dads. Dance recitals, sports events, music festivals – you know your way around different subjects. Treat yourself (or send this post to your loved ones as a subtle hint) to one or all of these goodies for your camera bag:

  • Your children are involved in a lot of fast paced activities. You may not be able to keep up, so your gear needs to! Equip yourself with the fast 70-200mm zoom lens so you don’t miss any of the action!

On-the-Go Dad

Were you a huge photo buff back in your prime and now with your busy schedule it’s hard to keep up with all the new gear? Your love of photography never dwindled, but you’re in need of something more compact, more reliable, or just easier to shoot while on-the-go; whether you’re on a budget or ready for something more high-end, we’ve got a point and shoot just right for you:

Vintage Dad

You’re all about quality. New gear? No way! You’ll take the oldies, but goodies. You’re a fan of classic cameras. You know, the ones that last forever. These young kids just don’t understand do they? You find yourself appreciating the quality images vintage cameras produce and enjoy learning and practicing how to develop different films and telling your kids, “Real photographers don’t use Photoshop”.

  • The Canonet QL17 GIII was once a mass-market, popular camera that discerning retro enthusiasts are saving from obscurity.  The silver exterior will nicely match your gray hair, too.

  • You’re a quality fanatic and nothing says quality like Leica. The Leica IIIF Black Dial Rangefinder is a less expensive, yet classic way to get your hands accustomed to shooting with Leica (you know this though – you’re Vintage Dad).

  • Speaking of quality, you can’t go wrong with the Nikon F3HP 35mm SLR. It’s reliable, durable, and enjoyable, just like you, Dad!

  • Attach the ultra bright and sharp Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AIS Lens  to your Nikon F3HP and you’re holding state-the-art, early-80’s tech used for countless award-winning images.

The Next Ansel Adams Dad

If it’s not a black and white worthy landscape photograph, it’s just not on your level. You’re probably best buds with the Vintage Dad, though you’re a little more modern. You’ve definitely learned your photographic styles from the great photographers before you. You’ll take more modern gear over the oldies and you need equipment to help you capture those landscapes perfectly. May we suggest:

  • You’ll be happy you upgraded from an entry-level camera to a nicer DSLR like the  Canon EOS 60D .With more extensive controls and a swiveling monitor, it’s a great tool to cover new ground with  and get Ansel Adams-esque landscape and nature shots.

You know you want a variety of lenses to capture the world  around you, so why not pick up a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Ultra-Wide-Angle , an upgraded standard lens, like the Canon EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM Zoom Lens and a macro lens, like the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM?

Teacher Dad

No need for Google, this dad knows it all. Heck! He taught Vintage Dad everything he knows. What type of photographer are you? You don’t believe in labels, because you’ve probably shot everything from portraits to weddings to landscapes. You’re well informed about both digital and film cameras, but you believe to truly know photography, you’ve got to start with the basics. There’s a certain beauty in simplicity and we think you’ll find the following gear handy as you continue your photographic journey and instruction:

  • A teacher is no fun without a few toys! The Holga 120S Medium Format Camera is a plastic film camera that lets one experience the joy a of bigger negatives without great expense . The kids might not be ready to run a roll through your prized Mamiya, but you can surely have some fun lessons with the Holga.

Treat yourself to one or all of these cameras or pass along to one of your children as a hint for what to get you for Father’s Day. They will enjoy learning which photographer dad they have! Have you captured some great photos of your children, or the father’s in your life? We’d love to see them. Tag #KEHDad in your photos on Instagram for a chance to win a $150 KEH gift card. Now through 6/15. A winner will be announced on Father’s Day 6/17.
